🎼 There’s a Song Inside You

Discover AABA Form and the Art of the One-Page Song

A Live Online Workshop with Calum Wood

Saturday 14 June | 1-Hour Zoom Session | Replay available | $15 / £12

✨ Rediscover the Craft Behind Timeless Songs

Ever sat down to write a song and felt stuck before you’d even begun?

So many adult musicians believe that songwriting is reserved for the gifted — or that it requires decades of theory. But the truth is, some of the most powerful songs in history are incredibly simple.

In this one-hour online workshop, composer and performer Calum Wood will show you how the AABA form (the classic 32-bar structure) can unlock your creativity and help you write meaningful, memorable songs — even if you’ve never tried before.

It’s not about being a “songwriter.”
It’s about telling your story through music — simply, clearly, and beautifully.

🎶 What You’ll Learn

✅ What the AABA form is — and why it works
✅ How to write a “one-page song” (yes, one page!)
✅ How structure can free you, not confine you
✅ Creative takeaways from Calum’s new album Patterns
✅ Live Q&A — bring your ideas, questions, and notebook!

✋ Wait… What’s AABA?

If you’re not sure what “AABA” means, don’t worry — you’ve definitely heard it.

This simple structure (32 bars in total) was used in countless songs from the Great American Songbook, early pop, jazz standards, and even some Beatles tunes.

Famous AABA songs include:

  • 🎵 “Over the Rainbow” – Harold Arlen
  • 🎵 “Blue Moon” – Rodgers and Hart
  • 🎵 “Yesterday” – The Beatles
  • 🎵 “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” – The Shirelles

It’s a shape that feels familiar, singable, and strong — and once you know it, you’ll start to hear it everywhere.

👤 Meet Calum Wood

With a background in folk and traditional music, Calum’s work as a composer and performer has taken him from Glastonbury to The Snow Roads Project, collaborating with some of Scotland’s finest musicians.

Part poet, part provocateur, Calum’s approach to songwriting is honest, humorous, and refreshingly human. You’ll leave this session inspired to make music that means something — to you.

💬 A Note from Fiona

I’ve seen so many adult musicians talk themselves out of writing.

“I’m not creative.” “I don’t know where to start.”
This session is for you

What I love about Calum’s teaching is that he gives you a place to begin. A shape. A spark. And permission to write something simple — and let that be enough.

Come curious. Leave inspired.
